Vintage Baseball Cards

Uncataloged Cards

One of the finer aspects in collecting vintage baseball cards is helping to rediscover history.  Many sets, players and variations exist that have not been formally reported to checklisting guides such as the Sports Collectors Digest.  Here are some of the uncataloged cards that I own.

c.1930's uncataloged milk cap featuring a crude photo of Babe Ruth.  Sizing is slightly larger than a Colgan's disk.  As you can see the type setting is crude and poorly done.  There's no mention of a company or producer on the backside, but a reference does mention that the milk bottles are washed daily and is made pure and fresh.

1936 Spencer Shoes Jimmie Foxx - This extremely rare premium was the only card produced by the shoe company.  It is cataloged by the SCD.

Odd c.1910-1920 disk card featuring Marion "Lute" Worl.  I haven't had any luck tracking down information about this individual, let alone the issue (which is almost certainly a one-off)

c.1910 uncat issue - unknown player with Wyndale jersey

c. 1939 uncat Larry rench.  Cards from this issue have been making their way into the limelight as of late, but little is known about the set.  Variations in size and color tinting have been found, and about a dozen different players have been checklisted.

c.1932 Chicago Cubs Team Issue - Bud Tinning (above).   This would seem to be a Cubs team issue from the early 1930's as the formatting is similar to a larger premium produced by the team.  These are much smaller in size.

1948 UO-uncat PCL/Signal Gasoline - Don Ross.  Nearly exact to the 1949 Cleveland Indians issue, this PCL version has yet to be cataloged.  I've confirmed with one of the leading PCL material collectors, from him I understand that cards for two different teams exist, with a possible full checklist of 10 players (5 from the LA and Hollywood teams respectively).  They are very rarely seen.

c. 1930/40's uncat Mel Ott Church Blotter.  I've seen a handful of different players designated on this format of blotter, most of which from Illinois churches.

1938 Zeke Bonura Night, ticket.  Another extreemly rare item.

1928 Tabacos de Angola.  Neat issue most likely produced by the same folks that made Tabacalera la Morena's.

1937 Travis Jackson/Jersey Giants schedule trifold card.

1916 London Idol Cigarettes Tris Speaker.  Alike the 1916 Cuban Susini issue, only with white borders and a backside ad form R.J. Hill & London Idol cigarette's.

c1910 uncat Cubs/Athletic's cards; Schulte and Coombs.  About 20 players have been seen, but these "cards" were likely cut down fom a larger piece.

1920 Rovers Baseball Club card

c.1942 ARA Mort Cooper invitational card.  Neat item I've not seen before.

1925 Michigan Aggies - R.G. Richards.  Trifold schedule card for the team, featuring its baseball captain on the front.

1930 Rochester Red Wings team issue; George "Specs" Toporcher.  Nice premium issue including most of the players from the 1930 team.
